The nation is seeing democracy trampled upon in the streets of New Delhi, Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday (July 20, 2026). Vijayan demanded the Union government to take full responsibility for the lapses in the conduct of national-level entrance exams and act against the culprits.
The corruption and ineptitude in the conduct of the examinations have destroyed the credibility of the government machinery. While such lapses continue to occur, scarcely anything has been done to install a fool-proof system or bring the culprits to book, Mr. Vijayan said. Peaceful protests sprang up across the nation when such a serious issue remained unaddressed.
Instead of resolving the matter or holding democratic consultations, the Centre is attempting to mercilessly suppress protests, he said. The repeated irregularities in the national-level entrance examinations have dashed the hopes of lakhs of students and their
families. In confronting the agitating students as if they were an enemy army, the intolerance of the BJP and the Sangh Parivar becomes evident, Mr. Vijayan said, calling for a strong, nation-wide protests against such an injustice.
