Read Full Story The victims were identified as Zahida Begum (38), her children Manan Rafiq and Aleesa (aged six and four), her brother-in-law Tanveer Ahmad Bhat (27), sisters-in-law Shamim Akhter (33) and Shabnam Bano (31), and nephew Mohd Irfan (17), officials said. They were residents of Arigam village in Mandi tehsil. Expressing grief over the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
He also directed senior officials to provide immediate relief and assistance to those affected. RAIN-RELATED DEATH TOLL RISES TO 23 The Poonch landslide was among several rain-related incidents reported across Jammu and Kashmir. At least 11 people were killed on Monday, taking the total death toll from the past two days to 23. In Doda district, two people died after a passenger bus was hit by a boulder that rolled down from a hillock near Raggi Nallah along the Jammu-Kishtwar Highway. Six people were injured in the incident reported around 9.30 am. The highway remained blocked for a prolonged period after multiple vehicles were hit by falling rocks, though no casualties were reported in that incident. In another incident in Doda's Kashtigarh area, a woman identified as Shiv Devi was killed after being hit by a falling stone near her house.
In Rajouri, the body of Vikas Ahmed, who was swept away in flash floods, was recovered from the river near the Salani area of Rajouri town. RAINFALL HAMPERS RESCUE EFFORTS Seven people were reported missing as continuous rainfall hampered rescue and relief operations in the affected districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The fresh spell of rainfall began around 3 am on Monday in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri and continued intermittently through the day. Officials said heavy rain over the past two days has caused extensive damage to public and private infrastructure. Ten people have died and six remain missing in Poonch, while two deaths and one missing person have been reported from Rajouri. Rescue operations are being carried out by teams from the police, Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), civil defence personnel and local volunteers.
