Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok announced that the corporation has cancelled the permissions granted to private agencies for commercial waste collection across the city, with the new system coming into full effect from Monday. Speaking to the media, the Commissioner said that commercial waste was earlier collected by private agencies Cube Energy and Ramasethu Infrastructure, which deployed 14 vehicles and 56 sanitation workers while collecting user charges from traders.
With the cancellation of their permissions, the corporation has taken over the responsibility of commercial waste collection directly. The civic body has deployed 10 tractors, 12 compactors and 100 sanitation workers to carry out the service. The Commissioner clarified that traders were no longer required to pay any user fee for commercial waste collection under the new arrangement.
He urged all business establishments not to hand over waste to representatives of the former private agencies and warned them against paying any money to anyone claiming user charges. Traders were asked to immediately report any such demand to the GMC helpline at 0863-2345103. The Commissioner also directed commercial establishments to keep separate bins for wet, dry and hazardous waste and hand over segregated waste to municipal sanitation workers.
He warned that action would be initiated under municipal laws against those violating the prescribed waste management rules.
