This is not Thalapathy's last film, it's CM Vijay's first: H Vinoth on Jana Nayagan

With Jana Nayagan finally set to hit theatres on July 23, director H Vinoth has said the film should not be seen as Thalapathy Vijay's final outing as an actor, but rather as Chief Minister Vijay's first film. The filmmaker said Vijay's political journey has transformed the way audiences are likely to perceive the project. In an interview with Cinema Vikatan, Vinoth said, "Whether this is really his last film, no one can say for sure. But you could say this is CM Vijay sir's first film." The remark came amid Jana Nayagan’s promotion as Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics.
The film, which was initially slated for a Pongal release, faced multiple delays, including certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Read Full Story By the time the release was finalised, Vijay had been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. As a result, Jana Nayagan, once billed as his farewell film as an actor, has now become his first theatrical release as Chief Minister, giving Vinoth's remark added significance. The director explained that Jana Nayagan goes beyond the conventions of a commercial entertainer and revolves around politically relevant themes.
"This movie isn't just some commercial flick. It's a really important political film. It's not made to glorify Vijay sir. It talks about very sensitive politics," he said, adding that he hopes the film will encourage audiences to engage in discussions about its ideas. The filmmaker added that the title Jana Nayagan carries a dual meaning. While it refers to Vijay as a leader of the people, it also represents the protagonist's role in protecting democracy within the film's narrative. According to Vinoth, the story centres on the conflict between those seeking to undermine democracy and those fighting to preserve it.
Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Narain, Priyamani and Nassar. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on July 23 after receiving an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
