Mysuru Warriors have named Karnataka batter Shubha Satheesh as captain of their women’s team for the second edition of the Maharani Trophy KSCA T20 tournament. Owned by the NR Group, the franchise unveiled the squad on Monday (July 20) ahead of the tournament, which will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from July 22 to August 2. Four franchises — Bengaluru, Hubballi, Kalaburagi and Mysuru — will compete in this year’s edition.
After an impressive campaign in the inaugural season, Mysuru Warriors will enter the tournament under the guidance of former India cricketer Karuna Jain, who continues as head coach. The franchise has also retained its partnership with the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Keragalli near Mysuru as part of its efforts to encourage greater participation of girls in cricket. The team launch was attended by Deepika T.C., World Cup-winning captain of the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team and an alumna of the Rangarao Memorial School for the Differently Abled, Mysuru.
She said the support extended by franchises such as Mysuru Warriors had played an important role in the growth of women’s cricket and inspired young girls to pursue the sport. NR Group director and Mysuru Warriors owner Arjun Ranga expressed confidence that this year’s squad would inspire more girls to take up cricket. Satheesh said the team had prepared intensively and was determined to bring the Maharani Trophy to Mysuru by playing positive cricket.
Ms. Jain said the squad had a balanced blend of experienced and emerging players who can deliver consistent performances throughout the tournament. As part of its social responsibility initiatives, Mysuru Warriors also presented cheques worth ₹3 lakh, donating ₹1.5 lakh each to Usha Kiran Eye Hospital and the Ability Sports League (ASL) Cricket organisation.
