The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday condemned the reported police action against social activist Sonam Wangchuk and students protesting in New Delhi, and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Staging a dharna in front of the Visakhapatnam Collectorate, CPI(M) leaders criticised the reported disruption of Mr. Wangchuk’s indefinite fast and alleged use of force against students during a Parliament march, calling the police action undemocratic. They urged the Centre to engage with the protesters instead of resorting to coercive measures.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) Visakhapatnam district secretary M. Jaggu Naidu said the alleged NEET paper leak had shaken the confidence of lakhs of students and parents, and demanded a comprehensive probe into the incident and strict action against those responsible.
He said the Union Education Minister should accept moral responsibility and step down. District leaders B. Gangarao, P. Mani, U.S.N. Raju and L.J. Naidu, among others, participated in the protest.
