Protests have brought Central Delhi to a standstill, with confrontations unfolding between demonstrators and the Delhi Police. The epicenter of the agitation is Connaught Place, where protesters have gathered in large numbers across the inner and outer circles, as well as arterial roads connecting to Sansad Bhavan and Janpath. Authorities have resorted to continuous tear gas shelling and lathi charges to disperse the crowds, but demonstrators continue to regroup.
The situation escalated after internet services were snapped, preventing communication among groups at Jantar Mantar and prompting unilateral marches toward the Parliament. The demonstrations, which include supporters of Sonam Wangchuk and the CJP, are being compared to the December 16 protests due to the participation of regular citizens. Despite the heavy police deployment, the crowds remain on the streets, creating a challenge for law enforcement in controlling the center of the capital.
