Delhi Police will register multiple FIRs in connection with incidents during a protest in central Delhi. The cases will cover stone pelting, attacks on police personnel and damage to vehicles near Parliament Police Station. Police sources said several police and paramilitary personnel were injured, while several individuals were detained and taken to different police stations.
No exact figure was available for the number of detainees. Police are assessing the damage and identifying offences under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Police sources also said those protesting peacefully were given safe passage and minimum force was used after alleged attacks on personnel. The bulletin also notes the protesters’ claim that they faced police brutality.
Security deployment remained in place across central Delhi as groups of protesters continued to gather in parts of the New Delhi area.
