AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "arrogance" and urged him to listen to the protesters and not use force against them as the CJP protest over NEET paper leak and alleged examination irregularities intensified. Thousands of protesters tried to march to Parliament as part of the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest seeking Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also appealed to the Centre to heed the protesters' demands, while several AAP leaders joined the protest in support.
Read Full Story In a video posted on X, Kejriwal said, "The entire youth of the country has gathered in lakhs at Jantar Mantar. Instead of listening to them, the government is ordering lathicharges against them. You have stopped the internet in the area; they are being stopped from going towards Parliament. This is not right." "I appeal to the government that these are our own country's children who have taken to the streets demanding justice, and then you resort to a lathicharge. Drop the arrogance and listen to them," he added.
Earlier in the day, AAP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, joined the CJP protest in a show of solidarity. Thousands of protesters gathered in central Delhi and attempted to march towards Parliament, but were met by teargas and lathicharges by the police. The protests began over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks, and gained momentum with activist Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike. On Sunday, Sisodia had urged political parties to join today's march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament and seek Pradhan's resignation over the NEET paper leak and examination irregularities.
Addressing protesters at Jantar Mantar, where the CJP has been leading an agitation for reforms in the examination system, Sisodia said the issue went beyond politics. The protest brought together thousands of demonstrators, backing from AAP leaders and fresh appeals from Kejriwal and Mann for the Centre to hear the protesters, who are demanding action over exam irregularities and the resignation of Pradhan.
