A tragic incident unfolded in Andhra Pradesh's Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district, where a 56-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide along with her 80-year-old mother, reportedly fearing that the elderly woman would be left without anyone to care for her. The incident took place near a village in Ravulapalem mandal. According to police, Meesala Suryavathi (56) and her mother, Vadapalli Burramma (80), left their home on Sunday morning after telling family members they were going to church. Investigators later found their Bible and personal belongings on a bridge over the Mukteswaram Main Canal, leading them to suspect that the two had jumped into the water.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Family members said Suryavathi had suffered a series of personal setbacks over the years. Her husband had died several years ago, following which her elderly mother came to live with her. Burramma was reportedly suffering from age-related ailments, including poor eyesight, while Suryavathi herself had been battling health issues. The family was further devastated when Suryavathi's elder son died in a road accident near Rajanagaram.
Although her younger son and daughter are now married, relatives said she remained deeply anxious about who would look after her ageing mother in the event of her own death. According to family members, Suryavathi would often express concern, saying, "If I die, who will look after my mother? I don't want her to become an orphan." They also claimed that she had, on several occasions, spoken about ending her life along with her mother so that Burramma would not be left alone. Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established.
Officials added that the statements made by relatives are part of the preliminary investigation, and all possible angles are being examined before any conclusions are drawn. Suryavathi's body has been shifted to the Government Hospital in Kothapeta for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by her late husband's family, and further investigation is underway. Ends
