Massive protests have erupted in central Delhi, with demonstrators gathering in Connaught Place, Jantar Mantar, and Sansad Marg. Delhi Police have resorted to firing multiple rounds of tear gas shells and using mild lathi charges to disperse the crowds attempting to march towards the Parliament. The government has suspended internet services in the area, leading to a communication gap among the protesting groups.
A delegation representing the protesters met with a senior ruling party leader, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. The delegation also requested that a prominent activist, who was removed from his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, release a video statement appealing for calm. Despite the government opening communication channels, the protests remain decentralized, with various groups acting unilaterally. While arterial roads like Kartavya Path have been cleared, a heavy presence of protesters continues in the outer circle of Connaught Place, resulting in a standoff with law enforcement as ambulances are rushed to the scene.
