Tensions escalated in central Delhi as police fired teargas shells to disperse demonstrators protesting against the NEET exam irregularities. The crackdown occurred despite the central government opening dialogue channels with the protesting youth organisation. During a brief meeting with a union minister, the demonstrators presented three primary demands: the immediate release of a prominent climate activist from a city hospital to break his fast at the protest site, the resignation of the union education minister, and a compensation of one crore rupees for the families of aspirants who died by suicide due to the exam crisis.
The government remains unwilling to accept these demands, maintaining that accountability is being addressed through systemic improvements following a retest. As the impasse continues, internet services have been suspended in parts of the city, and protesters are attempting to march towards the parliament building. The authorities, caught off guard by the massive turnout, have heavily barricaded the area in hopes that the agitation will eventually subside.
