The Supreme Court of India has suggested reconstituting the Special Investigation Team investigating the Ram Temple scam allegation case. The court proposed that the reconstituted team be headed by a senior Indian Police Service officer and asked the solicitor general to seek instructions from the state government. This suggestion followed the solicitor general's statement that the existing team was only meant to examine the truthfulness of the allegations and was not an investigating agency.
The court questioned why the existing team, which included senior officers, was not given full powers to investigate the entire controversy instead of only providing a prima facie opinion on whether a cognizable offence occurred.
