The first case was reported in the early hours of July 10 when a woman experienced severe breathing difficulty soon after surgery. Doctors stabilised her condition before referring her to the Government Hospital in Nizamabad for advanced care. A day later, another patient, identified as Lakshmipriya, developed pain in her hand, breathing problems and a significant decline in her blood cell count. She was also shifted to Nizamabad for treatment. By July 12, three more women who had undergone C-sections began showing similar symptoms. Doctors observed a sharp fall in blood cell count among the affected patients, while two women also recorded reduced urine output, raising concerns about their worsening condition.
As the number of affected patients rose to five, hospital authorities decided to transfer all of them to higher medical centres. Three women – Umera Fatima, Ruksana and Jyothi – were later referred to Hyderabad after doctors assessed their condition as critical. Lakshmipriya and Sunitha continue to receive treatment at the Government Hospital in Nizamabad. Hospital officials said teams of gynecologists, physicians and other specialists are closely monitoring the patients. Authorities have collected samples from the operation theatre as well as medicines used during the surgeries and sent them for testing. Investigators are examining multiple possibilities, including infection and adverse reactions to drugs or medical consumables used during the procedures.
