A 23-year-old man died after suffering a gunshot wound at a gymkhana in Maharashtra's Thane district, with police saying the death took place under suspicious circumstances and that the preliminary probe points to a possible case of suicide. The incident took place on Saturday evening at the Patil Mountain View Gymkhana in Badlapur. Police identified the man as Bhuvan Patil and said he was inside the premises when the gunshot was fired.
Read Full Story According to police sources, Patil was seen moments later stumbling out of the building in a badly injured and bleeding condition. He later died. CCTV footage from the premises showed him emerging from the building after being hit by the bullet, an official from Kulgaon police station said. Police said witnesses and the gymkhana's caretaker were being questioned. In his preliminary statement, the caretaker told police that he was asleep inside when the incident took place and did not see the shooting.
A forensic team and senior police officials visited the spot to collect ballistic evidence and fingerprint samples. Police are also analysing technical data to trace any unusual movement near the gymkhana around the time of the incident. An accidental death case has been registered for now, and the autopsy report is awaited, police said. Kulgaon's Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Dhavale said, "As per the preliminary probe, it seems to be a case of suicide." He added that police were examining the CCTV footage and would record statements of the deceased's family members in due course.
