A pall of gloom descended on Pyari Bas Shekhpur village in Rajasthan's Alwar district after the bodies of a newlywed couple were found hanging under suspicious circumstances in a forest in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district. The couple, who had been married for about six months, were found dead on July 17. The victims have been identified as Satvinder Singh and his wife, Amandeep Kaur, who was three months pregnant. Amandeep was a resident of Bijnor, and Satvinder had travelled there on July 15 to bring her back after she had been staying at her parents' home for around 15 days. Read Full Story According to the family, Satvinder had asked his father, Magar Singh, to transfer Rs 3,000 via Paytm as the display of his phone was damaged.
His father spoke to him after transferring the money. However, when the couple failed to return home by evening, repeated attempts to contact them proved unsuccessful as both their phones were switched off. A missing persons complaint was subsequently lodged with the local police. On July 17, a resident of Premnagar spotted a motorcycle parked by the roadside with its key still in the ignition and a woman's handbag hanging from it. After identifying the vehicle, he informed the family and the police. A search operation was launched in the nearby forest. Around 1 am, police found the bodies hanging from a tree. Satvinder's body was allegedly suspended using Amandeep's dupatta, while Amandeep's body was hanging from Satvinder's turban. Their damaged mobile phone was also recovered from the spot. The family has alleged that the couple was murdered, and their bodies were staged to appear as a suicide.
They claim that the hands of both victims were tied and that the tree branch from which the bodies were hanging was too thin and too low to support a suicide. Both bodies were found with their legs bent at the knees, which they say further suggests foul play. The family also alleged that Amandeep was gangraped before being killed. They claimed she had injuries on her private parts, while Satvinder's body bore multiple serious injury marks, indicating that both were assaulted before being murdered. They also pointed out that the couple's jewellery, cash and other belongings were found intact at the scene, suggesting robbery was not the motive. According to the family, the attackers broke the couple's mobile phone before fleeing. On Saturday, the bodies were brought to the Community Health Centre in Naugaon for post-mortem.
