The Opposition has objected to the Centre's proposed Prevention of Insults to Honour (Amendment) Bill, which seeks stricter legal protection for the Song Vande Mataram and proposes up to three years' imprisonment for acts deemed to disrupt or insult it. Congress leaders argued that the status of the Song and Anthem was settled after extensive Constituent Assembly discussions and accused the government of pursuing a political agenda.
