(Photo: PTI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an active spell of the southwest monsoon across large parts of the country, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over several northern, eastern, northeastern and western states over the next few days. The weather agency has cautioned that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, waterlogging, rising river levels and disruption to transport in vulnerable regions. The forecast comes as heavy rain has already affected parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam and Nagaland, with authorities stepping up disaster response measures in several states. HIMACHAL PRADESH: FLASH FLOODS, LANDSLIDES FEARED The IMD has forecast widespread monsoon activity across Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in districts including Chamba, Kangra, Shimla and Mandi, while Una, Bilaspur, Solan, Hamirpur, Kullu and Sirmaur are also likely to receive heavy rain. The weather office has warned that intense rainfall may trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and rockfalls, especially in vulnerable hill districts. Waterlogging, poor visibility, traffic congestion, disruption to transport, damage to crops and interruptions to essential services are also possible. Residents and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to landslide-prone areas, stay away from rivers and fast-flowing streams, and follow advisories issued by local authorities. JAMMU & KASHMIR: RAJOURI FLOODS, VAISHNO DEVI YATRA SUSPENDED Heavy rainfall has triggered flood-like conditions in Rajouri district, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting normal life.

According to officials, one person has died while another remains missing. In neighbouring Poonch, continuous rain led to the collapse of a house, leaving multiple members of a family injured. Authorities have warned of landslides, flash floods and road blockages and advised people to avoid unnecessary travel. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra has also been temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions in Katra and the Trikuta Hills as a precautionary measure. MAHARASHTRA: MUMBAI UNDER YELLOW ALERT Mumbai continued to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, with showers intensifying across several parts of the city since Saturday night. Areas including Andheri, Bandra, Vile Parle, Dadar and parts of the central suburbs recorded significant rainfall. Despite the rain, suburban train services on the Central, Harbour and Western Railway corridors continue to operate, although speed restrictions at certain locations have resulted in minor delays. DELHI-NCR: TEMPERATURES TO DROP SHARPLY The IMD has forecast scattered thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in Delhi from Monday through Wednesday, bringing relief after hot and humid conditions over the weekend. Maximum temperatures are expected to fall significantly, dropping from around 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday to nearly 30 degrees Celsius by Tuesday as monsoon activity strengthens over northwest India. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely. UTTAR PRADESH: HEAVY RAIN, THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY Active monsoon conditions are expected to intensify across Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours.
