US Central Command says a US service member has been killed in northern Iraq while carrying out a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone. A second US service member was injured and is receiving medical treatment for minor wounds.
The latest fatality raises the confirmed US military death toll linked to the conflict with Iran to 17, according to CENTCOM. The military also says unidentified remains found at the site of Iranian attacks in Jordan could belong to another US soldier previously listed as missing.
CENTCOM says it has carried out strikes on IRGC targets, including communication and air defence facilities, following attacks on US forces. The US embassy in Jordan has warned of further credible security threats as regional tensions continue to escalate.
