A 52-year-old man has been arrested near Moradabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly stabbing his 45-year-old wife to death with a pair of scissors at their home in Seelampur in northeast Delhi, police said on Sunday. The alleged attack followed a domestic dispute linked to his suspicion that she was in an illicit relationship. Police said the woman was found with grievous injuries at the house in Gautampuri on July 16 and was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The accused, identified as Saleem, had fled after the incident and was later traced and arrested. Read Full Story According to police, information about the incident was received at around 7:32 pm on July 16, after which a team reached the house and found the woman lying in a pool of blood. A case was registered at Seelampur police station, and the crime team and the Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the spot and collected forensic evidence. During the investigation, Saleem was found missing from the house immediately after the incident, making him the prime suspect, police said.
A police team analysed CCTV footage, examined technical evidence, developed human intelligence and tracked his movements across several locations before tracing him near Moradabad railway station on Saturday. "During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and told investigators that he suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with a former co-worker at a garment factory, which led to frequent quarrels between them," a police officer said. On the day of the incident, the couple argued again over the issue, after which he allegedly attacked her with a pair of scissors, locked the house and fled, police said.
The weapon and blood-stained clothes have been recovered, and further investigation is underway. Police said the case centres on a domestic dispute in which the accused allegedly killed his wife at their Seelampur home, fled the scene and was later arrested in Uttar Pradesh. Ends With PTI inputs
