Political parties setting a strict age limit to phase out senior leaders from key positions is unethical, said Kerala Dalit Federation (KDF) State president P. Ramabhadran. Inaugurating the KDF State leadership meet on Sunday, he added that it is an unjust to push aside and ignore the knowledge, experience, and insights of individuals who have consistently demonstrated efficiency, administrative skills, and political wisdom.
“The methodology used by certain political parties to ruthlessly reject individuals with long and illustrious track records in public service, solely based on age, is profoundly anti-democratic,” he said. He pointed out that leaders who were sidelined from party responsibilities and parliamentary activities due to their age, and forced into a “cold storage” for a decade, were wholeheartedly welcomed back by the public when they eventually returned to face the electorate.
He also criticised the tendency of political parties to distance themselves from talented youngsters who, despite being well-educated, hardworking, and highly capable organisers, are excluded
under the pretext of being too young. KDF State vice-president R. Damodaran presided over the function.
