An assistant teacher at a primary school in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district has been suspended after a Class 2 student was inadvertently locked inside a classroom, an official said on Sunday. The incident took place on Friday, and a video showing the child trapped inside the room later circulated on social media. Following this, the District Basic Education Officer sought a report, and an inquiry held the assistant teacher responsible for the lapse.

It was found that the school staff had unwittingly left the child locked inside the classroom and gone away. Villagers saw the crying student through a window and called the school staff, who returned after about an hour and a half, unlocked the door and brought him out.
The child's parents had also reached the school by then. After the video surfaced, the District Basic Education Officer immediately sought a report from Sirkoni Block Education Officer Amresh Singh. The inquiry confirmed that the student had been locked inside the classroom on Friday and held Krishna Kumari responsible. She was suspended with immediate effect and attached to the Upper Primary School in Pariyanv during the suspension period. The Block Education Officer has been directed to complete the inquiry in a fair and time-bound manner and submit a report.
