Rajya Sabha MP M. Nagaraj distributed battery-operated tricycles worth ₹16 lakh to 42 Divyang and differently-abled people at Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s office in Hubballi on Sunday. The distribution of equipment comes under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment through the Pradhan Mantri Divyang Kendra - Vayoshri Kendra (PMD-VK) Hubballi and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
Nagaraj said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana with the aim of ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of society get government benefits. Pralhad Joshi is implementing this and other schemes with keen interest, he added. MLA Mahesh Tenginkai said that these battery-powered three-wheelers, walkers and other assistive devices will help the disabled and senior citizens to lead a dignified and independent life without depending on anyone.
Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Durgamma Bijwad said that it is a matter of pride that 7,000 people have so far received help in Dharwad Lok Sabha Constituency at a cost of ₹4 crore and that such
pro-people programmes will continue in the coming days as well. MLC Lingaraj Patil said that various essential aids and equipment, including walkers, were handed over to senior citizens and disabled people during the programme.
