Minister for MSME and NRI Affairs Kondapalli Srinivas on Sunday said the North Andhra districts would witness unprecedented growth after the inauguration of Alluri Sitharama Raju international airport at Bhogapuram on August 1, in the presence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Mr. Srinivas and senior officials reviewed the arrangements for the inauguration programme. Srinivas said that the construction had begun during the previous TDP government (2014-19) and it is now fully ready with the concrete steps taken up by the NDA government.
He said the airport would create employment for thousands of youngsters from Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam due to its strategic location on Highway-16. The Minister said that a lot of developmental activities would come up in and around Bhogapuram airport since such development was observed after the construction of an international airport at Shamshabad in Hyderabad. Earlier, Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy, Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar visited several neighbouring villages of Bhogapuram to ensure hassle free parking for nearly 6,000 vehicles. They thanked the private layout developers for providing land to ensure parking for huge number of vehicles which would come from all parts of the State.
Damodar said that adequate security arrangements are being made for the PM’s visit in accordance with the guidelines given by both Union and the State governments. Roads and Buildings Department officials were directed to improve road condition between Kancheru to Munjeru and other areas. Mr. Reddy said that the roads and parking areas should be in good condition even if there would be a heavy downpour in the next few days. Meanwhile, the administration is making arrangements for the hospitality of top level officials who would come from New Delhi, Vijayawada and other places.
GMR Group which developed the airport was directed to complete all pending works within the airport as per the security norms. Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu is expected to visit the airport site before the inauguration of the airport on August 1.
