Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar has directed all district officials to strictly implement the Chief Minister’s directives on drought preparedness in view of the deficient southwest monsoon and to take timely measures to address other public issues. Chairing a meeting of district-level officers at his office on Sunday (July 19), Dr. Kumar instructed departments to begin planning immediately to ensure there is no shortage of drinking water during the next summer season.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the implementation of the online attendance system across government departments. Officials were told to resolve technical issues without delay and ensure 100% online attendance by all officers and staff. The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials to make effective use of the VB-G RAM G scheme and stressed that gram panchayats should prioritise livelihood-oriented works that directly benefit individual families instead of contractor-driven projects. Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini, sub-divisional officers and officials from various departments attended the meeting.
The directions follow Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s review meeting with Deputy Commissioners, zilla panchayat CEOs and senior officials in Bengaluru on Sunday (July 19), where he instructed district administrations to prepare for a possible drought due to the severe southwest monsoon deficit. The Chief Minister said Karnataka had recorded an overall 39% rainfall deficit up to Saturday (July 18), with deficits of 43% in Malnad, 35% in coastal Karnataka, 33% in north-interior Karnataka and 31% in south-interior Karnataka.
He noted that 158 taluks had reported deficient rainfall, including 20 taluks facing severe rainfall deficiency, and directed officials to closely monitor the situation and implement drought mitigation measures on priority. Following the Chief Minister’s directions, the Mandya district administration convened the meeting to initiate preparedness measures at the district level.
