The Trinamool Congress leader in the Rajya Sabha has written to the Prime Minister, urging the convening of an all-party meeting to discuss proposed legislations on delimitation and amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. The opposition remains apprehensive about the government's legislative tactics, citing the handling of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill in 2019.
The leader highlighted that previous bills on delimitation and union territories failed to secure a two-thirds majority in April. Concerns were also raised that the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act would weaken institutions working with marginalised communities. The opposition is demanding wider consultations and formal notifications regarding the legislative agenda before the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
