The opposition staged a walkout from the all-party meeting ahead of the parliamentary monsoon session. The protest was triggered by the government inviting a rebel faction of political parties whose members of parliament announced a merger with another political group. The opposition also protested the Lok Sabha Speaker's decision to allow separate seating for twenty rebel members of parliament.
Meanwhile, the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister appealed for constructive debate and cooperation from all parties to ensure the smooth functioning of the session, shifting the responsibility onto the opposition. The recognition of the rebel members has strengthened the ruling alliance's tally to 318 in the lower house of parliament.
