A family in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh has alleged that a private hospital left a surgical mop inside a woman during a Caesarean section, leading to severe infection and multiple surgeries. The hospital has denied the allegations, maintaining that the patient was discharged in a normal condition and never returned with any post-operative complaints. According to the family, Jaya Choudhary underwent a Caesarean delivery at Daksh Hospital in Kumbha Nagar, Chittorgarh, on May 2. The hospital discharged both the mother and newborn on May 6. Read Full Story The family said Jaya initially appeared to recover normally but soon developed severe abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and persistent discomfort. They alleged that when the surgical stitches were removed on May 9, they informed the doctor about her pain, but the symptoms were described as normal after surgery.
The family said Jaya continued to receive treatment from local doctors and another hospital, where doctors identified an infection but could not determine its cause. As her condition worsened, the family shifted her to Zydus Hospital in Ahmedabad on June 24. According to the family, CT scans and other investigations at the Ahmedabad hospital revealed that a surgical mop used during the Caesarean operation had been left inside her abdomen. They said that the retained mop caused a serious infection that also affected her large intestine. The family said doctors performed another surgery on June 27 to remove the surgical mop and also operated on the affected section of the intestine. They claimed the negligence has drastically changed their lives.
According to the family, they have spent nearly Rs 15 lakh on treatment so far. They also said the newborn could not receive breast milk from the mother for a prolonged period and that Jaya has still not fully recovered. The family further claimed that she may require another surgery. Jaya's brother-in-law, Krishnakant Choudhary, released a video on social media accusing the hospital of negligence and demanding action. The video went viral, bringing the matter into the spotlight. The family also pointed out that this is not the first controversy involving Daksh Hospital. They said complaints were filed against the hospital in February 2026 over irregularities under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, billing discrepancies, misbehaviour with patients and collecting payments without providing detailed bills.
