The accused kept changing his location in an attempt to evade arrest (Iamge used for representation) A 52-year-old man has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad for allegedly murdering his wife at their home in Delhi’s Seelampur. The accused, identified as Salim, was taken into custody after remaining on the run for three days, police said. The case came to light on Thursday evening when the 45-year-old woman was found lying in a pool of blood inside her house. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
With Salim missing after the incident, police launched a search operation and treated him as the prime suspect. Multiple teams were formed to trace him, while investigators examined CCTV footage and analysed technical evidence to track his movements. According to police, the accused kept changing his location in an attempt to evade arrest. He travelled from Delhi’s Anand Vihar through several cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Lucknow, before returning to Moradabad. He was eventually arrested near the railway station, around 160 kilometres from Seelampur, as per a NDTV report. During interrogation, Salim allegedly confessed to the crime. He told investigators that he suspected his wife, who worked at a garment factory, of having an affair with one of her colleagues. He claimed the issue had been the reason for frequent arguments between them.
Police said another heated argument broke out on Thursday over the same matter. In a fit of rage, Salim allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times with a pair of scissors before fleeing the scene. Based on the accused’s disclosure, investigators recovered the scissors allegedly used in the attack, along with the blood-stained clothes he was wearing at the time of the incident. According to police, Salim has no previous criminal record.
