In his letter, Rahul Gandhi said the Prime Minister’s silence over the controversy was “not acceptable" and argued that millions of devotees had contributed to the construction of the Ram Temple with faith and devotion. He said every rupee donated by the public should be accounted for and urged the Centre to ensure that the trust’s financial records are made public. The party argued that making the trust’s accounts public would reinforce confidence in the institution and remove any doubts over the handling of donations. SIT PROBE IS ON The latest political intervention comes as the Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues to examine the alleged theft of offerings from the temple’s donation collection system. Officials questioned key accused Tinnu for another round on Sunday as they attempted to establish the flow of money, identify other possible beneficiaries and determine whether the alleged theft was confined to a handful of individuals or pointed to wider administrative lapses. The investigation has so far resulted in the arrest of several people associated with the counting and handling of donations. Investigators suspect that cash collected from devotees was siphoned off over a period of time, with CCTV footage, recovered cash and digital evidence forming crucial parts of the probe. Officials are also examining the standard operating procedures followed during the counting, storage and auditing of temple donations.
