Heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir have triggered severe flash floods and landslides across multiple districts. A cloudburst in Dawar, Gurez, caused a massive landslide, blocking a key road. Rajouri and Poonch are the worst-affected districts, with four reported deaths and five people missing. The Darhal River is overflowing, inundating low-lying areas and the Rajouri bus stand, where hundreds of vehicles have been washed away or damaged.
In response to the crisis, the administration has issued flood alerts and initiated rescue and evacuation operations in vulnerable areas. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is returning from New Delhi to Jammu to monitor the situation, stating that saving lives is the government's top priority. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also reviewed the relief efforts. Due to the inclement weather, major pilgrimages, including the Amarnath Yatra, Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, and Shiv Khori Yatra, have been temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of devotees.
