Opposition parties initially boycotted and later rejoined an all-party meeting held ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of parliament. The initial walkout was staged to protest the inclusion of twenty rebel members of parliament who recently joined an unrecognised faction. Opposition leaders questioned the invitation extended to these rebel members, pointing out that their merger has not been approved by the speaker and disqualification petitions remain pending.
Following a truce with the government, the opposition returned to the meeting to discuss key national issues. The upcoming parliamentary session is expected to be stormy, with the opposition planning to raise concerns over the medical entrance exam paper leak, inflation, ethanol blending, and controversies surrounding temple donations. Meanwhile, the government is anticipated to introduce new legislative bills, including a delimitation bill and a contentious prosecution bill.
The all-party meeting highlighted the existing friction between the government and the opposition as both sides prepare for a highly debated legislative session.
