Lost: One Chatty Parrot. Reward: Rs 50,000. Task? Bring ‘Mau’ Back For This Agra Family Published By, Last Updated: July 19, 2026, 12:00 IST The posters feature Mau's photograph along with a promise of a Rs 50,000 reward for anyone who returns the bird. Rapid Read Since the bird went missing earlier this month, the family has put up large posters across the city. An Agra family launched an extraordinary search for their missing pet parrot, offering a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who can help bring the bird home safely. The parrot, named “Mau", belongs to the family of income tax advocate Sunil Kumar Singh. Since the bird went missing earlier this month, the family has put up large posters across the city, including at Bodla Chauraha, appealing for information about its whereabouts. The posters feature Mau’s photograph along with a promise of a Rs 50,000 reward for anyone who returns the bird or provides credible information leading to its safe recovery.
According to Sunil Kumar Singh, the family’s bond with Mau began unexpectedly on March 15, 2025. The parrot was found injured near Agra’s Mental Hospital area after apparently falling from a tree. Although the bird received treatment, its wings never fully recovered. Rather than leaving it on its own, the family decided to care for the parrot at home, where it gradually became a beloved member of the household. Unlike many pet birds, Mau was never kept in a cage. Family members said that the parrot roamed freely around the house, moving from room to room and often following them throughout the day. However, on July 13 at around 4.30 pm, Mau suddenly flew away towards Sector 4 of Awas Vikas Colony and has not returned since. To help residents identify the bird, the family highlighted Mau’s distinctive black markings on its beak and wings. They hope the unique features will make it easier for someone to recognise the missing parrot.
The search has expanded beyond neighbourhood streets, with residents sharing Mau’s missing posters across social media platforms in an effort to widen the hunt. Speaking about the loss, Sunil Kumar Singh said the family has struggled to adjust to the bird’s absence. “Mau was much more than a pet. The house feels empty without it," he said, recalling how the parrot had learnt the names of family members and would often greet visitors in its own distinctive way. Mamta Singh said Mau had become an inseparable part of the family’s daily life. According to her, the bird would frequently interrupt the children’s study sessions with its chatter, bringing energy and laughter to the household.
