Just recently, investigators finally arrested Bhura from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal over the killing of two police personnel during a sensational instance of robbery in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra. He was found living under a fake identity, India Today reported.
In 1999, a robbery attempt on some police personnel had resulted in the killing of two of them. Since then, Bhura –– the prime accused –– had been on the run. Officials said that he had left Agra and lived in a forest for a while to evade the police. He later relocated to Madhya Pradesh’s Itarsi to work as a labourer. Eventually, he moved to Bhopal, where he worked in construction for some time and later became a truck driver. Changed Name, Got Married According to India Today, citing officials, Bhura changed his name to Jameel in what authorities described as a deliberate attempt to erase any trace of his old identity. During this time, he got married to a woman and had children.
He even managed to get himself officially declared dead in government records. Moreover, he avoided contact with his family members and close relatives to make them believe that he was dead –– All this to deceive the law. How Was He Discovered? When a former associate of the accused was released from prison, he met with his brother-in-law at a gathering where they consumed alcohol. Just like that, he mentioned to Bhura’s relative that he had spoken to him about two years back. The information reached the police in Agra that alerted its network of informants. Then, relying on technical surveillance, investigators laid a trap in Bhopal and nabbed him, India Today reported. While the absconder initially tried to mislead the police, he eventually revealed his true identify during questioning, investigators said.
