(AI generated for representation) A love marriage that once promised a lifetime of companionship ended in one of Uttar Pradesh’s most chilling murder conspiracies. In Meerut, police claim a woman, along with her alleged lover and two accomplices, plotted the murder of her school-owner husband by using a venomous snake, hoping to pass it off as an accidental snakebite and claim a ₹20 lakh insurance policy. What initially appeared to be a tragic case of snakebite has now become a sensational murder investigation. According to police, the alleged conspiracy involved sedating the victim with sleeping pills before releasing the snake onto his bed while he slept. Police say the accused believed the death would be treated as a natural accident, helping them escape suspicion while paving the way for an insurance claim. The investigation gathered pace after the victim’s family questioned the circumstances surrounding his death, eventually leading to the arrest of the wife, her alleged lover and two alleged snake charmers. PREMEDITATED MURDER The victim, Atul Panwar, owned and managed a private school in Hastinapur in Meerut district along with his wife, Damini.
The couple had married for love in 2019 and were regarded as financially stable. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avinash Pandey said police found that Tushar had been working as the school’s bus driver for the past three months and was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship with Damini. “Further investigation led the police to conclude that the victim’s death was the result of a premeditated murder rather than a natural snakebite incident," Pandey said. According to police, however, their relationship had deteriorated over the past few years after Damini allegedly entered into an extramarital relationship with Tushar, a married van driver employed at the school. Police claim the two wanted to continue their relationship and viewed Atul as the biggest obstacle. THE EXECUTION According to the police investigation, the alleged conspiracy was planned over several weeks. During questioning, the accused allegedly revealed that they deliberately chose a venomous snake as the murder weapon because a snakebite death would appear accidental and would be far less likely to attract suspicion than conventional methods of murder. Police said Tushar allegedly contacted two snake charmers, identified as Sonu and Uday, to procure a venomous snake. Police believe the four accused then worked out the details of the plan, including the timing of the murder and the disposal of evidence. They also allegedly planned to claim the ₹20 lakh life insurance policy taken in Atul’s name after his death. During interrogation, Tushar told police that the murder was carried out late at night. Damini first mixed sleeping pills into a glass of milk served to Atul. Once he fell into a deep sleep, she allegedly moved with the couple’s child to another room.
