Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday took an apparent swipe at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav without naming him, questioning his daily routine when he was the chief minister and saying he did not have time for the public. Adityanath also claimed the SP chief had no vision for the youth, farmers, women, the poor, traders and entrepreneurs. Read Full Story Addressing a gathering where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 57 development projects worth over Rs 574 crore, Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and contrasted it with the period before 2017. He also highlighted welfare schemes such as free ration, LPG connections, housing and health cover, and said the BJP government was working to restart closed sugar mills. "The entire nation is benefiting from the guidance and leadership of Narendra Modi ji.
Under his guidance and leadership, we are moving forward on this journey that embraces both heritage and development. However, the situation was quite different before 2017," he said. In a remark apparently aimed at Akhilesh Yadav, Adityanath said, "Back then, 'Babua' would wake up at noon and would get ready by 2 pm. By 5 pm, it was time for the gym, and after that he would settle into his own social gatherings." He added, "Where was the time for the public? Where was the time to meet the people? He had no vision for the youth, the poor, women, the farmers who feed the nation, or the traders and entrepreneurs. He did nothing in the past, and Lord Ram has ensured that he is no longer in a position to do anything in the future either." Adityanath said the previous SP government had failed to provide free ration and LPG connections.
He said benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana, as well as health insurance under Ayushman Bharat and the Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, could have been given before 2017, but were not. "The LPG connections for households could have been provided before 2017, but those in power failed to do so because they lacked vision, time, and the capability to work. They also lacked sensitivity for the poor. That is why such anarchy had prevailed. Today, however, there are schemes for the poor, for women, and for the youth; there are new schemes for every section of society," he said. The chief minister also claimed that 29 sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh shut between 2007 and 2017 and that 21 of them were sold at throwaway prices. "Today, sugar mills are not being sold off; instead, the 'double-engine' BJP government is working to restart the closed mills," he said.
