Fourteen persons were injured after an APSRTC bus overturned into a roadside ditch near Madduluru village in Santhanutalapadu mandal of Prakasam district on Saturday morning. No fatalities were reported and none of the injured sustained life-threatening injuries. According to the police, the APSRTC bus (AP 39 TF 1589), travelling from Kondapi to Ongole, lost control and overturned into a roadside ditch while giving way to an oncoming bus at about 8.45 a.m. The bus was carrying around 70 passengers, of whom 14 suffered injuries.
Cheemakurthi Circle Inspector, Santhanutalapadu Sub-Inspector, police personnel and local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Government Hospital at Kondapi in 108 ambulances. Some of the injured were later referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital, Ongole, for further treatment. Social Welfare Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, accompanied by Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured passengers, including the woman conductor, who was also hurt in the accident.
The Minister interacted with doctors to assess the condition of the injured and said it was fortunate that all the passengers had escaped with minor injuries. He said the government was ensuring quality medical care for those undergoing treatment. Swamy said he had informed Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy about the accident and assured that medical treatment would be provided until all the injured recovered fully. Meanwhile, Mr. Ramprasad Reddy spoke to APSRTC and Prakasam district officials over the phone to review the situation.
He directed them to ensure immediate medical assistance to the injured and provide advanced treatment to the seriously injured woman conductor. The Transport Minister also ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the accident and directed officials to strengthen safety measures to prevent similar incidents in future.
