The internal rift within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the alleged misappropriation of election funds has intensified with party workers filing a formal complaint
The internal rift within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the alleged misappropriation of election funds has intensified with party workers filing a formal complaint against the Kollam East District Committee leadership. The complaint has been submitted to BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, alleging massive financial irregularities during the recent Assembly election campaign. According to the complaint, the district leadership deliberately misled the State leadership by projecting the Kunnathur Assembly constituency as an ‘A-Class’ constituency solely to secure higher funding for personal financial gains.
The workers alleged that the financial statements presented by the leadership are completely fraudulent, pointing out instances where up to ₹28,000 was claimed to have been distributed for campaign activities in booths that managed to secure a mere 25 votes. Furthermore, the petition states that funds were shown as distributed even to booths where the BJP does not have an active booth committee. Comprehensive probe The complaint also highlights multi-crore financial scams carried out under the guise of election campaign vehicles, printing materials, and hotel bookings.
Serious allegations have been raised against the BJP Kollam East general secretary in the letter, which urges the State leadership to expose the individuals who are fracturing the party for personal monetary benefits. The disgruntled party workers have demanded a comprehensive investigation into the sudden financial gains made by certain leaders during the election period. Following the eruption of these allegations, the BJP district unit had previously directed all constituency presidents to report to the district committee office with their respective fund utilisation accounts.
The development comes amid widespread complaints regarding fund mismanagement in several other key constituencies, including Kottarakara, Kundara, Kollam, and Karunagappally.
