In a significant administrative reform aimed at cutting corruption and improving operational efficiency, the Karnataka Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DGP & IGP) has ordered a fixed one-year tenure for police constables and head constables posted to Special Branch in police stations across the State. The order, issued on Saturday, mandates that the posting of constabulary staff in the Special Branch at all police stations shall not exceed one year.
After completing the tenure, the personnel must be shifted back to regular law-and-order duties. To ensure continuity in intelligence work, the DGP has directed that the next officer identified for the Special Branch must undergo a minimum of 15 days of training in intelligence gathering before taking charge.
Only personnel who have completed the prescribed training will be eligible for Special Branch postings. The order has been issued as part of broader efforts to strengthen intelligence collection at the police station level and enhance the
department’s efficiency and professionalism. All unit heads, including Commissioners of Police, Range Inspectors-General, Superintendents of Police and other heads of police units, have been instructed to implement the new system immediately and submit compliance reports to police headquarters.
