Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has issued a response after his party office in Amtala, South 24 Parganas district, was demolished by bulldozers. Authorities razed the structure citing it as an illegal building with several violations. Blaming the Bharatiya Janata Party for the demolition, Banerjee termed the action a political vendetta. He warned the BJP of a tit-for-tat response, stating that when the government changes and the TMC returns to power, BJP party offices will cease to exist and will be executed in the same 'legal manner'.
Despite claims that his representatives were not furnished with a complaint copy during a prior hearing, the demolition drive proceeded, bringing down multiple floors of the building. Banerjee is now taking the matter to the Calcutta High Court. He has written to the Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Justice, seeking an urgent hearing to challenge the demolition drive. The BJP has denied direct involvement, maintaining that the action was based on verified complaints of illegal construction.
