The Lok Sabha Speaker is expected to decide today on the status of defections within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Shiv Sena (UBT). Twenty rebel TMC MPs, who quit the party, have sought a merger with the NCP-I, claiming they represent the genuine TMC and demanding the party symbol.
Additionally, six out of nine Shiv Sena UBT MPs have joined the rebel faction. The Speaker has held day-long meetings with representatives from both sides and reviewed the submitted documents. The decision is awaited ahead of the government's scheduled all-party meeting tomorrow, as it will determine the official recognition and invitation of these factions.
