A political showdown is building over the proposed Delimitation Bill and an amended Women’s Reservation Bill. Sources say the BJP is working on a formula to increase Lok Sabha seats by 50% in every state to address concerns raised by southern states.
The government is also working to secure the two-thirds majority needed to pass the bill. Congress has said it will oppose the Delimitation Bill and work to maintain opposition unity. The BJP, however, believes Congress is isolated on the issue and says it has the numbers to pass the bill.
Sources say the government is in touch with the DMK and other regional parties, with some opposition leaders indicating they will examine the bill before
