Read Full Story According to preliminary information, the tank was no longer in active use but had accumulated stagnant water and waste over time.
Police said the students were carrying out the cleaning operation while standing on a wooden ladder placed across the open tank. During the process, the students fell into the septic tank, leading to the fatal accident. The victims were between 15 and 18 years of age. The victim was identified as Rohin, 17, a resident of Haryana. The injured students were immediately shifted for medical treatment. Authorities said all 12 survivors were referred to a hospital in Alwar for specialised care following the incident. Deeg District Superintendent of Police Kamble Sharan Gopinath said, “Police received information about the incident late in the evening and rushed to the madrasa to assess the situation.
A complaint alleging negligence has been filed, a case has been registered and an investigation is underway”. The SP added that while one student succumbed to the incident, the remaining injured students were provided medical treatment. He added that nine of the injured students were discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning after their condition improved, while the remaining students continued to receive treatment. Police are now examining the circumstances that led to the accident, including why the students were engaged in cleaning the septic tank and whether adequate safety measures were in place.
Investigators are also looking into possible lapses in supervision and responsibility for the maintenance work. The tragic incident has raised concerns over safety standards at educational institutions and the handling of hazardous maintenance activities. The outcome of the police investigation is expected to determine whether further legal action will be taken against those found responsible for any negligence linked to the student's death and the injuries suffered by the others.
