'Signed By The People Who Built It': Skyroot's Vikram-1 Rocket Wins Hearts Ahead Of Historic Launch Written By, Last Updated: July 18, 2026, 12:08 IST Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Vikram-1 as a milestone for India's private space sector, while social media celebrated the engineers behind the mission. 'Signed By The People Who Built It': Skyroot's Vikram-1 Rocket Wins Hearts Ahead Of Historic Launch, PM Modi Calls It 'Historic New Frontier' As Skyroot Aerospace prepared for the maiden launch of Vikram-1, India’s first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, one image captured the internet’s attention even before the rocket left the ground. Sharing a photo of the launch vehicle covered in handwritten signatures, the company posted “Signed by the people who built it. 🚀 Every signature on Vikram-1 belongs to an engineer, technician, or teammate who helped make this mission possible. Now, they’re all headed to space aboard Mission Aagaman." The post quickly went viral, with thousands celebrating the people behind the rocket as much as the rocket itself. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the team ahead of the launch, calling Vikram-1 “A historic new frontier for India’s space journey." In a post on X, he said the mission reflected the talent, determination and entrepreneurial spirit of India’s youth and showcased how reforms in the space sector were opening new doors for innovation and enterprise.
Named after Dr Vikram Sarabhai, Vikram-1 is scheduled to lift off from ISRO’s Sriharikota launch facility in Andhra Pradesh. The seven-storey rocket is designed to place satellites into a 450-km Low Earth Orbit. If successful, India will become only the third country—after the United States and China—to have a private company capable of carrying out orbital launches. Skyroot has described its long-term vision as creating a “cab service to space," allowing customers to book dedicated rocket launches to deploy satellites or reach space stations more easily. Another commented, “This to the team of sky root if you seen this msg we all from India want to thank you trust me you all who signed on this mission has so much respect and dignity Tomas we value your time and blood which you have given to this mission.
