Jantar Mantar Protest Live: Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for the past 20 days, was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital by the Delhi Police on Saturday morning after his health reportedly deteriorated.
According to sources, Wangchuk has been admitted to the emergency ward. He is conscious and his vital parameters are stable. In a statement, the Delhi Police said Wangchuk was moved to the hospital for "essential medical care" following expert medical advice and in compliance with the directions of the Delhi High Court.
Following Wangchuk's hospitalisation, the Delhi Police appealed to protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to vacate the protest site peacefully at the earliest. A heavy deployment of Delhi Police personnel was seen at Jantar Mantar after Wangchuk was taken to the hospital.
