The West Bengal government has issued a new directive making the singing of the national song, Vande Mataram, mandatory in all madrasas across the state before the commencement of classes.
This recent order applies to all government, aided, and unaided madrasas falling under the jurisdiction of the Madrasa Department and the Minority Department.
The mandate follows a similar directive that previously made the singing of Vande Mataram compulsory in all government schools across West Bengal.
According to the latest instructions, all previous orders and practices regarding morning assemblies stand cancelled.
Previously, students in these educational institutions used to sing Jana Gana Mana, along with a poem by a Muslim poet during their morning prayers.
