A court in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Saturday sent Samarth Singh, the husband of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma who was found dead last week, to seven-day police custody in connection with her alleged dowry death case. Singh, the prime accused in the case, was produced before the district court after being brought to Bhopal in the early hours of Saturday. He had surrendered before a court in Jabalpur on Friday after remaining absconding for several days following the registration of an FIR against him and his mother.

Singh Taken To Bhopal In Early Hours Police officials said Singh was taken to the Katara Hills police station around 2 am after his arrest outside the Jabalpur court premises. He was transported to Bhopal in a convoy accompanied by his lawyer and members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Misrod ACP Rajnish Kashyap. Further, advocate Ankur Pandey, counsel for the victim’s family, confirmed the court has granted police seven days’ custody of the prime accused. He added that proceedings related to Singh’s passport were also held, and the accused’s lawyer submitted the passport before the court. “The police got 7 days’ custody of accused (Samarth Singh). There were proceedings regarding the passport. His lawyer submitted the accused’s passport today. There are three other pending applications which we had filed for preservation, the date for which is 29th…" the advocate said.

While her in-laws have alleged that she was struggling with drug addiction, her family has accused them of harassing her for dowry, claiming it drove her to death. Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI probe into the case. Responding to questions on the matter, Commissioner Kumar said the local police would continue their investigation until the central agency formally takes over. HC Seeks Giribala Singh’s Response By May 25 On the status of questioning former judge and Bhopal Consumer Court chairperson Giribala Singh, Kumar said, “We will record her statement at the earliest." Police had earlier issued a third and final notice to Giribala Singh after she allegedly failed to appear for questioning.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has also issued a notice to her, seeking a response by May 25 on petitions challenging the anticipatory bail granted by a Bhopal court.
