Twisha Sharma Death Case: Family Writes To Governor, Seeks Ouster Of Mother-In-Law From Judiciary Role Published By, Last Updated: May 21, 2026, 10:23 IST Twisha Sharma’s family has escalated its fight for justice by writing to the Governor and demanding the removal of her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, from her post in Bhopal. Twisha Sharma death case (Photos: Social Media) The family of Twisha Sharma has once again written to the Governor seeking an impartial probe into the case and demanding the removal of Twisha’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, from her current post as Chairperson of Bench 2 of the Consumer Commission in Bhopal. The latest development comes amid continuing allegations by Twisha’s family that the investigation into her death has been influenced to protect the accused. Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, has alleged that the state machinery was functioning in favour of the accused persons and urged authorities to take cognisance of the matter. Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, was found dead on May 12 at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area. Police later registered an FIR against her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, under charges related to dowry death and harassment. COURT REJECTS SECOND AUTOPSY PLEA A local court in Bhopal on Wednesday rejected the plea filed by Twisha Sharma’s parents seeking a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi. According to the order passed by Judicial Magistrate First Class Anudita Gupta, the court was not convinced that a second autopsy was necessary to establish the truth in the case. The judge observed that “minor infractions of procedure" were insufficient grounds to order a re-postmortem examination. The court also noted that the first autopsy had already been conducted at “a prestigious medical institution, AIIMS Bhopal", and that there was no material on record suggesting any suspicious or collusive relationship between the accused and the medical team that performed the post-mortem. The court further pointed out that videography of the first autopsy had been conducted. The judge additionally held that ordering a second autopsy at AIIMS Delhi would fall outside the jurisdiction of the court. However, while rejecting the plea, the court directed police to urgently ascertain whether facilities for long-term preservation of the body were available at medical institutions elsewhere in Madhya Pradesh or in metropolitan cities within the state. The court noted that Twisha’s body was presently being kept at AIIMS Bhopal at -4°C, while longer preservation would require storage at -80°C, a facility reportedly unavailable in Bhopal. FAMILY ALLEGES LAPSES IN INVESTIGATION In their plea before the court, Twisha’s parents had raised multiple concerns regarding the investigation. They alleged that there were procedural lapses, including the FIR being registered three days after Twisha was found dead. The family also claimed that investigators failed to provide the alleged ligature, said to be the belt used in the hanging, during the first post-mortem examination. According to the family’s lawyer, Ankur Pandey, the parents also feared possible influence over the post-mortem process because Giribala Singh’s sister is a Bhopal-based surgeon. REWARD FOR ACCUSED HUSBAND INCREASED Meanwhile, Bhopal Police have intensified efforts to trace Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, who remains absconding. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar announced that the reward for information leading to his arrest has now been increased to Rs 30,000. Police said the earlier reward of Rs 10,000, approved in May by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 02), had been cancelled as the accused continued to evade arrest. Authorities stated that six police teams are currently searching for Samarth Singh, and efforts are also underway to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) in the matter. Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav met Twisha Sharma’s family members at the state ministry in Bhopal and assured them of full support from the government. The Chief Minister informed the family that the state government would send a letter seeking a CBI investigation into the case. He also stated that if the family wished to transfer Twisha’s mortal remains to AIIMS Delhi, the government would facilitate transportation.
