As the hearing progressed, Twisha Sharma’s family and their counsel pointed to multiple discrepancies in the investigation, post-mortem findings and official records, while police said they had no objection to a second post-mortem examination. Here are the five major unanswered questions at the centre of the case Why Was Belt Not Sent During Initial Post-Mortem? The alleged ligature material- a belt said to have been used in the hanging- has emerged as one of the biggest points of controversy. Twisha Sharma’s lawyer questioned why the belt was not made available to AIIMS doctors during the initial post-mortem examination. The family argued that without the belt, doctors could not properly match the ligature marks found on Twisha Sharma’s neck with the alleged hanging material. The Bhopal Police Commissioner admitted the belt had been seized by the Forensic Science Laboratory team but was not sent to the hospital in time, calling it a possible case of negligence. Police, however, maintain that the belt was later sent and that the delay did not affect the investigation. Why Are There Alleged Gaps In Injury Documentation? Twisha Sharma’s lawyer also questioned why the post-mortem report allegedly lacks detailed mention of injuries found on her body. The issue was raised in court as the family argued that crucial medical observations may not have been fully documented during the examination process. The family has now formally sought preservation of the body and demanded further forensic scrutiny. In court, police submitted in writing that they have no objection to a second post-mortem. Why Do CCTV Timings And FIR Not Match? The most troubling discrepancy relates to the timeline surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death. According to CCTV footage presented in court, Twisha Sharma was seen going upstairs toward the terrace around 7:20 pm. Around 8:20 pm, three people were reportedly seen bringing her body downstairs. However, the FIR records the time of death as 10:50 pm. The nearly three-hour gap has become central to the case, raising questions over whether the CCTV timestamp was incorrect, the FIR timing was wrongly recorded, or whether crucial events remain unaccounted for. Why Are There Contradictions In FIR? The FIR itself has come under scrutiny over multiple inconsistencies. Twisha Sharma’s age reportedly appears differently in separate sections of the document. In one place, her date of birth is listed as April 16, 1987, while other sections reportedly mention her age as 33 and 31. Another contradiction relates to the handling of the body. The FIR reportedly states that the body was handed over to the family, but Twisha Sharma’s relatives say they have not claimed it and that it has remained in the mortuary since May 13. The family has refused to perform the last rites until legal action is taken against the accused. Where Is Twisha’s Husband? Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, remains the key accused in the case and is currently absconding, according to police. While Twisha Sharma died on May 12, the FIR was registered only on May 15. A court has already rejected Samarth’s anticipatory bail plea.
