A 46-year-old father of a girl threw acid on a 17-year-old male student on Monday at a bus stop in Dhargalim. The accused has been arrested.The man and his family held the boy responsible for the death of his daughter, who was in an alleged relationship with the boy. The teen’s condition is critical.The incident took place at around 7.45am. The boy’s father dropped him at the bus stop to attend college at Mapusa. Police said that the accused, a resident of Dodamarg, Maharashtra and working as a gardener at an optical manufacturing unit at Karaswada, Mapusa, came on his two-wheeler with acid in a bucket and threw it at the teen before fleeing. Police said that the boy ran in pain crying for help and fell on the road. When a person saw the teen in pain, they approached him and contacted his father.The teen’s father, who was about to reach home, rushed to the spot and took him to the North Goa District Hospital at Mapusa. After giving him first aid, the teen was shifted to Goa Medical College.Pernem PI Sachin Lokare said that one month ago, the daughter of the accused died at GMC, and the family holds the boy responsible for her death. Police said that both the girl and the boy used to study in the same institution at Mapusa, and they knew each other.Police said that one day the girl visited the boy’s house, and after she returned, she started vomiting. She was shifted to GMC, where she died. Police have registered it as an unnatural death, as it was a medico-legal case.“The accused told us that the boy was suspected to be associated with the death of his daughter as they were in a relationship. The chemical used in the incident is suspected to have been taken from the company where the accused is working. The two-wheeler used in the crime has been seized,” SP (North Goa) Rahul Gupta said.After the incident, police visited the spot, and multiple teams were constituted to identify the accused. Police said he took the chemical, which is acidic, from his workplace to throw on the boy. The details of the chemical or acid used in the crime will be known after the forensic report is available.
